Don't forget to vote. . . It's the right thing to do!


Only a week left for you to place your vote in the "Which Scenario Should They Fight in Early 2012?" poll.  Sittangbad remains in the lead with approximately 44% of the votes so far, but the river crossing scenario is running an increasingly close second.  Meanwhile, the armies of the Grand Duchy of Stollen and the Electorate of Zichenau are gathering and preparing for the march to the first tabletop battlefield.  But which one they march to and contest first has yet to be determined.  If you have not already done so, please be good enough to cast your vote before midnight on January 31st.  You can do so in the upper right-hand corner of the GD of S homepage.

Very nice, Chris! I must admit, while I enjoy landscapes, the lady in the maid's apron with the feather duster is my favorite. It's got that 1940s-50s feel to it. Not too unlike some of the gals painted on the nose of American bombers during WWII.

I got an email from someone asking about the compatibility of Minden and RSM95 CAVALRY.

I didn't notice such a photo in your various comparison photos . . . might you provide such . . . or at least comment upon it?

I've been loving your comparison photos. A lot of my current collection is from RAFM, fleshed out by some from Old Glory and some from Warrior. I'm eyeing some of the RSMs but I'm curious to see how they line in size to the RAFMs.

Hi Peter,

I know the RAFM figures but don't have any in the collection to photograph beside any of the othrs in comparison. I think, however, that the RAFM are "true" 25mm, and so somewhat smaller than the RSM95 figures, which were originally marketed as true 1/60, or 30mm figures back in the early 80s. Still, as long as you keep the figures in distinct units, and maybe mount the smaller ones on thicker bases, it probably will not be something that sticks out too much on the tabletop.

Here's a picture illustrating my (S-L-O-W) progress with the second company of Stollen's Leib (Grand Duchess Sonja's Own) Grenadiers. You can see I'm doing things a bit differently this time, altering the painting process to keep it interesting basically. This evening, I'll do the white gaiters and, if that goes reasonably quickly, and time allows, the red breeches. Having a "No Day". . .

  F or the almost 20 years that she lived in Mexico, one of my late mother's Irish friends frequently mentioned having a "No Day."  A day with no social obligations, chores, tasks, or other work that interfered with whatever personal interests took one's fancy on the day in question. Since today -- a gray and chilly Saturday -- is Mom's birthday, the Grand Duchess is out with friends, and the Young Master is ensconced on the sofa in the TV room with a cold, yours truly is taking his own such No Day.  I think Mom would approve of my decision to make the world go away, as the old Eddie Arnold song intoned, even if only for a little while. So, I will spend Saturday afternoon focused on that first squadron and small regimental staff of Eureka Saxon cuirassiers.  These have stood waiting  untouched over on the painting table for almost three weeks while we skied and otherwise gadded about with snowy, winter outdoor activities. I hope to share a painting update Sunday...
