If any of you Grand Duchy of Stollen regulars would like, please take a few minutes to send me you thoughts on several related areas. These include:
* Reasons in support of imagi-nations
* Wargame campaigns set in the 18th century
* Figure choice
* Assembling armies
* Designing/painting uniforms
* Building terrain and scenery
* Fictitious Campaigns
* Map/personality development
* Wargaming on a shoestring
* Assembling a wargaming library
* Anything else you might think of when it comes to the hobby in general.
If you have some well-lighted, well-composed, and focused digital/digitized pictures of your figures and games that you don't mind sharing with others, please send those along too. Credit will be given to all contributors.
I don't want to give too much away, but I am interested in collecting and sifting through your ideas about the above and any related areas. You can drop me a line directly at: stokes@commercialcopywriting.com. Thanks in advance for your interest and assistance with this project.

Please email me your phone number and a good time to call you and discuss some of these things.
I've had no response over the past few months to a number of emails I've sent, so I suspect that your Provider may be filtering my Provider thinking its spam.

PS, remember I'm in the Pacific Time Zone.
Monte-Cristo, I fear, has nothing original to offer, only a compilation / digestion / attempt of synthesis of ideas collected elsewhere: archivist work, not that of an original writer.
Best wishes,
Jean-Louis
If you see this, check the comments at your Saxe-Bearstein blog. I tried replying to your e-mail, but it bounced back, so I've sent the info you requested there.
Best Regards,
Stokes
Thanks for that reply. I've deleted it so that your phone number is hidden.
It does seem that our ISPs are not talking to each other, doesn't it?
Now I understand why you didn't reply to my question about some plastic figures back in early November.
I'll hope to remember to call on Saturday. Thanks for your response. And please let me know if your plans change.

Following is the text of that November inquiry:
Stokes,
As someone who is knowledgeable in the "plastic figure world", I have a request.
One of the projects I have (besides our SYW stuff) is the American "Wild West". I can find metal foot figures easily enough -- but the few mounted figs are very pricey ($5-8 each with no real idea of what they look like).
So, it seems to me that this might be a good time to try out some plastics. I'm looking for mounted figures in the 25mm area. I'm not looking for military figures, but for "movie cowboys" (as opposed to real cowboys).
All I saw on the Plastic Review site was a 1960 Airfix set. It would be okay (although not great), but I doubt they are to be found anymore. Surely there is something newer and available at a reasonable price. Can you help me locate something?
-- Jeff
Jeff - you may want to consider checking with Will at the "Fire at Will" blog (http://willwarweb.blogspot.com/)?? He's definitely a 'dyed in the wool' plastics collector and may have some insight?? F.w.i.w I had some of the Airfix Indians not long ago, and they were defintely on the small side scale/heft'wise..
...I return you to normal service.... :o)
~ I have some 18th C. campaign data/information on my AWI project page..
~ Please feel free to use any of the pictures, on any of my blogs, that you care to...
~ My WSS project blog has some detail on selecting figures, along with comparison pictures, and my thought processes in chosing the models that I did..
~ I will send you separately an article I wrote for Lone Warrior on the use of Berthier - the campaign management software.
Trust this helps???
Yes, please do forward any material you'd like. That would be great. I' look forward to reading what you send and hopefully integrating it into my project. ENjoy the day.
Best Regards,
Stokes
I'll try to get something together for you on this.
Back from the ski slopes and just caught up with your recent posts. Great battle report by the way. And the mexican cake!
With regard to your question I can say that my SYW campaign is not driven by any serious pre-planning. A number of factors set me off into the 18th century. Firstly I needed a break from Napoleonics. Secondly I was browsing in a model shop and ended up walking out with a huge pile of Revell boxes. I then bought second hand copies of Charge and Charles Grants The Wargame. Thankfully I bought these about a year before the prices took off. My large units (54 strong in 3 ranks) coincided with the discovery by me of the OSW site and through that many others such as yours and Alte Fritz's to name just 2. I'm definately on the side of the 'big battalions'.
So I have historical units for the Austrians/ Reicharmee V Prussia rather than hypothetical armies. I just like uniform books! I have always liked the whole concept of campaigns rather than individual battles where everyone seems to fight to the last man or even worse for points. This really comes from books such as Quarries 'Napoleon's Campaigns in Miniature' and Tony Bath's Campaign book. The idea of flank attacks, keeping reserves, sieges, refusing to give battle etc is highly appealling. Making the campaign work is vital which is why I find articles such as those by Henry in Battlegames so interesting. I would be v interested in learning about any software which assists.
Hope this ramble assists. Personnally my fairly unstructured approach has been highly enjoyable and I am as enthused about the project as when I started. Put it this way, I haven't returned yet to my Napoleonics. I would just continue in your own time and way and if we are allowed to share your progress, so much the better.
Regards,
Guy
I realize that I'd given you legal permission to use things on my Saxe-Bearstein blog on the original posting . . . but since that one got eliminated, here it is again.
As for photos and other graphics, you may may use any that are mine. Do check with me because a handful of photos are from Murdock's camera . . . and, while he will almost certainly give permission, we do want proper credit given.
The first posts of 2007 and 2008 are indexes of the previous year's posts . . . so they are a great place to look for things you're searching for.
(Hmmmm, I should probably turn them all into links as well, huh? . . . sounds like work, but I might do it anyway).
I'll try to give you that call on Saturday.

I'll put pen to paper and e-mail you my thoughts.
please feel free to use piccies of the blog.
