Krankenstadt, The Grand Duchy of Stollen -- The recently returned Prince Ruprecht VII of the Electorate of Zichenau (shown at right) was found dead in his chambers this morning, the apparent victim of poisoning. However, royal doctors have not confirmed this possibility as yet. A bowl of half-eaten figs was found nearby. The exact whereabouts of his paramour, the Princess Valerie of Pillau-Zerbst, are unknown.
Prince Ruprecht VII had only just returned from a year in exile, residing in the city ofBoston in the American colony of Massachusetts . He and Valerie eloped just a little over one year ago, in the face of her approaching marriage to the French mercenary General Philip de Latté, currently in the employ of the Electorate of Zichenau. At this time, it is not known whether de Latté had anything to do with the death of Ruprecht, although his precise whereabouts are also unclear at present.
In the meantime, Ruprecht’s mother, Antonia of Tauroggen-Fiebus, has declared herself Princess of Zichenau and dispatched several regiments of infantry and cavalry to secure important points in the capital and larger towns around the Electorate of Zichenau in case of civil unrest. No further news has come from Zichenau’s capital Hissig at this time. Just how the death of Ruprecht will affect the existing situation between Stollen and Zichenau remains to be seen.
No statement has been issued from Krankenstadt in reaction to the news of Ruprecht’s death. When informed of this latest development earlier today, Grand Duke Irwin-Amadeus II reportedly answered, “Yes, yes. . . Very sad that. I don’t think I will take any fruit salad with my midday meal this afternoon,” before returning to work on the latest chapter of his forthcoming history of the Etruscans.
