1914-1918. . .

A field of poppies.

“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism, nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism. . .  In saying ‘our interests first and who cares about the others,’ we erase what a nation has that’s most precious, what makes it live, what is most important: its moral values.” -- French President Emmanuel Macron

Stokes,
I wouldnt read anything into Macron's pronouncements. This little man is scrabbling for his political life and is desperate to appear presidential. His suggestion for the creation of a European Army is one of the reasons why I voted to leave his club. Considering how the French refused to join NATO for many years and since joining still wont pay their share of the costs is typical of French politics.Sadly Trump hasn't the wit to stare this pygmy down and call his bluff and instead just looks huffed. Putin must be laughing himself bad.

Sorry Stokes, I must agree with Robbie, the bloke is just having a political snipe at Trump. I wouldn't look to this French president for insight on anything of importance. Macron, like so many recent French politicians, has played his part in making Paris what it is today, and if anyone thinks thats a 'nationalist' viewpoint, I have the same opinion about London. On a more pleasing note, I still think your painting style reminds me of Meissen figurines.

Even so, fine sentiments.

As Dr Samuel Johnson said in April 1775:

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel"

He probably would have included Nationalism in this too.
