Wet Snow Falls in the Grand Duchy. . .

He's not done yet. . . Here's another Victorian, or Edwardian image of Father Christmas in keeping with the season. The overflowing sack of fruit and other treats in his left hand is a nice touch.

About an inch of wet snow arrived during the night here at Stollen Central (our first snow was a dusting on December 9th). Not really enough to do anything with, and given the warm temperatures so far this season, it will probably melt away as the morning progresses, but it is beautiful outside our windows at the moment. Here's to the small pleasures in life.

The current batch of ten RSM figures is just about finished. Touch-ups will be applied this afternoon, following Young Master Paul's lunch and going down for his afternoon quiet time. Actual naps no longer seem to be on his daily agenda. Anyway, the next ten figures were glued onto their temporary bases during yesterday evening's painting session, and tonight after supper, they will receive the usual treatment of a white basecoat.

Finally, I'm going to order volume four of Wargaming in History: The Seven Years War by Charles Grant plus some of those RSM pandours/croats/grenzers this afternoon. I might even make it to the local artists' supply and craft store to purchase some new paintbrushes with some of that Christmas windfall, but there is no hurry. If one is able to, it's nice to slow down and avoid going anywhere, or doing anything during Christmas Week if at all possible.

Just finished those ten RSM musketeers! 36/61 figures finished. . . 25 to go. White basecoats for the next ten of those this evening after supper. Just under three weeks to go until the January 16th deadline!

Here's an RSM Painting Update

Here's a picture illustrating my (S-L-O-W) progress with the second company of Stollen's Leib (Grand Duchess Sonja's Own) Grenadiers. You can see I'm doing things a bit differently this time, altering the painting process to keep it interesting basically. This evening, I'll do the white gaiters and, if that goes reasonably quickly, and time allows, the red breeches. Still lots to do, but I like the way these fine fellows are shaping up along side the completed 1st company that's standing in formation just off camera, to the left here. Until tonight then!

Here they are, with the rearmost nine figures still drying, three squadrons of the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere, now in the service of the Grand Duchy of Stollen. And now, it's onto that artillery!

Keepin' an Eye on the World Going By My Window . .

'The Nap at the Palace' by Jose Triado Mayol N ot much in the way of hobby-related activity happening here in the Grand Duchy lately. Sigh. And no surprise there really since there are only so many hours in the day, only so much mental and physical energy to spare, and you sometimes simply just have to give in and know when to say, um, "When!" A glass of wine and/or evening yoga by the hearth with the Grand Duchess (who has practiced for over 20 years), and then off into la-la land. Zzzzzzzzz. More immediately, I'm recovering, mentally speaking, from a grueling Friday in which I was involved with three (online) conference sessions, one right after the other, followed by a 90-minute meeting at the end of the day. Also virtual. My brain has been mush ever since, so an easy, completely unproductive Saturday watching intermittent snow fall outside (no accumulation however) and drinking coffee while the visiting handymen completed some repair work down h...
