Unfortunate Pre-Christmas Housekeeping. . .

No, it's not the title of the latest holiday blockbuster movie. Sigh. I have made the decision to moderate comments here at the Grand Duchy of Stollen blog. Here’s the brief background. . .

Thanks to two recent posts from a certain "anonymous" person here and at another imagi-nation blog, I think comment moderation is now required. What a shame that there are people out there who, given the chance, will act like jerks.

Constructive critique, painting/modeling suggestions, and help are fine, and I welcome them. However, in each case, this particular guy has simply oozed negativity and brought nothing of value or interest to the ongoing exchange. And since the Grand Duchy is intended as a place of fun, happiness, and escape, I won’t tolerate his kind of nonsense.

Moderating comments left here will also put a stop to occasional and bizarre spam of the "Guys, make her happy all night" variety. The upshot of all this is that it will take a little longer for future comments to appear here since I'll have a little more sorting to do on my end. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this might cause and hope that you Grand Duchy of Stollen regulars (as well as new tourists) will continue to visit and leave occasional comments. Now, let’s get back to the painting bench and the fun. Charge!!!

What a shame - I hope this will not continue to be a pain for you and all true coniseurs of Stollen!

Oh, good grief..! Some people. I applaud your efforts to keep these wonderful entries clean, Stokes. I'd better be on my guard too.

I know what you mean. I received a comment recently that seemed rather negative, but I wasn't sure if it was meant tongue-in-cheek or if the commenter was serious. I just chose to ignore it - this time.
Stokes,

I made this comment on Der Alte's Blog the other day and stand behind it:

It seems to be the mantra of at least a large part of the newer internet generation that "Them that can, Do, and them that can't (or won't) find any way they can to belittle or ridicule Them that do." Having spent a large part of my career dealing with the general public in a service capacity, it seems that all too many of them were either never taught, or have forgotten, the basic tenants of good grace, good manners, and what most of us consider to be good behavior. It makes me wonder what my career-military Father would think if he were still with us.

My own three children were all raised to look adults in the eye, carry on intelligent and polite conversations, and always, always say "Please, Thank You, Sir, Ma'am and Excuse Me"; in other words, all the politically-incorrect things that many feel no longer apply. I'm proud to say that all three are well thought of by their employers, have done well in their careers, and deal with people on a daily basis. In fact,my 26 year old Son has gone out socially with me and is accepted by most of my 50-something friends as an equal.

Perservere my friend, those of us who matter and count themselves as your friends are solidly by your side.

Stokes: I would be willing to bet that Mr. Anonymous and Peterfarmer57 are one and the same. He seems to have trolled around some of the Emperor vs Elector related blogs posting snide comments. The wonderful thing about owning a blog is that you can delete the bad messages.

A certain spy has been captured by Milady de Winter and turned over to Count Schadenfreude of Hesse Seewald. The spy will probably be marched in front of a firing squad. I bet that you can't guess what his name is. I may even set up a picture of the episode.

Hi Stokes,

It never ceases to amaze me just how negative and destructive some people are. I think we all deal with this in real life and your site amongst others and our hobby are an escapist sanctuary from the mad world out there. I am sure we will all applaud your efforts to repel the boarders.

Guy

Presenting the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere!!!

Here they are, with the rearmost nine figures still drying, three squadrons of the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere, now in the service of the Grand Duchy of Stollen. And now, it's onto that artillery!

Taking Stock Part II: The (As Yet) Unpainted but Planned OOB. . .

Two companies of Reichsarmee grenadiers painted back in 2017 or 2018.  Minden Austrians of course. A lovely early autumn day here in the grand duchy.  Bright sunshine and a light breeze with cool temperatures will make for some very pleasant late afternoon lawn mowing in a little while.  But first a bit more discussion of painting plans for the future. Last time, I looked back at the various and sundry units, support troops, and civilians that I've managed to paint in the last 17 years as the Grand Duchy of Stollen project has developed.  So today, let's look into the seemingly bottomless Drawer 'o' Lead to my left for a clue to the new direction.  Be forewarned, it's not going to be a quick job getting everything painted and based, but there we are. The following plans are based on the pile of unpainted figures already here.  Any future purchases will be limited to small things that might be needed to fill out the envisioned units (the odd few officers mounted o

Having a "No Day". . .

F or the almost 20 years that she lived in Mexico, one of my late mother's Irish friends frequently mentioned having a "No Day."  A day with no social obligations, chores, tasks, or other work that interfered with whatever personal interests took one's fancy on the day in question. Since today -- a gray and chilly Saturday -- is Mom's birthday, the Grand Duchess is out with friends, and the Young Master is ensconced on the sofa in the TV room with a cold, yours truly is taking his own such No Day.  I think Mom would approve of my decision to make the world go away, as the old Eddie Arnold song intoned, even if only for a little while. So, I will spend Saturday afternoon focused on that first squadron and small regimental staff of Eureka Saxon cuirassiers.  These have stood waiting  untouched over on the painting table for almost three weeks while we skied and otherwise gadded about with snowy, winter outdoor activities. I hope to share a painting update Sunday a
