Part of Zum Stollenkeller has been flooded!!!

Well, we've had a few hours of thunderstorms with heavy rain here in Central Illinois, and the room where my gaming table is has been flooded! Nothing approaching biblical proportions, but the cheap carpeting on the concrete floor is sopping wet. I've quickly cleared some things that were leaning against the walls, or sitting on the floor, out and set up the dehumidifier on "high" in there. But it looks like the table and figures will have to come down in the morning, to make a proper job of drying everything out. The main thing is to prevent the carpet from developing that tell-tale mildewy stench later.

That means, of course, that the Saegewerkdorf game between Jeff Hudelson and me is doomed to a premature end I fear. I suppose we could look at it from an Old School point of view, kind of like one of Donald Featherstone's chance cards -- "Due to a sudden and protracted cloudburst, both armies retire from the field with no further fighting possible thanks to wet powder and sodden ground that prevents any movement for cavalry or guns."

Curses! It looks like General von Drosselmaier has been foiled again, and victory goes to General von Drednoz of Stagonia. Of the two armies involved, Stollen's certainly sustained more casualties during the brief (two turn) battle. Looks like the vile ones have a solid foothold in southwestern Stollen. . . at least for the time being.

Oh! that brings back memories of when I was confined to a basement that flooded regularly...and an ex-wife...I used to call it "the joys of ownership..." hope you can save your stuff. I'm suffering with you!

All citizens of the Konigreich are wishing you the best.

Stokes,

I've emailed you with the previous Stagonian plans if we had to interrupt the battle (also what would have happened if things turned your way).

I will let you make the appropriate post . . . to "break the news" so to speak . . . err, write.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Been there done that as they say. Look on it as an opportunity to reorganise the space you have.

Okay, Stokes, I couldn't wait . . . I've posted a brief not on my Kingdom of Stagonia blog.

How unfortunate, hope there is not too much water damage

As Stokes indicated, the wet carpet is the biggie.

"Game called on account of rain" - I would say that shouldn't count as a full win for the nasty vile ones, but I may be biased... ;-)

Here in California basements are as rare as an honest Stagonian, and that "rain" stuff of which you speak seems nearly as rare lately, so flooding is something I have no experience with. I hope you get it all sorted and minimal damage!

Water is the worst thing to happen to a home. I've been through that experience in my last house. So I always store the minis and terrain off the floor and in sealed plastic containers.

Presenting the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere!!!

Here they are, with the rearmost nine figures still drying, three squadrons of the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere, now in the service of the Grand Duchy of Stollen. And now, it's onto that artillery!

Taking Stock Part II: The (As Yet) Unpainted but Planned OOB. . .

Two companies of Reichsarmee grenadiers painted back in 2017 or 2018.  Minden Austrians of course. A lovely early autumn day here in the grand duchy.  Bright sunshine and a light breeze with cool temperatures will make for some very pleasant late afternoon lawn mowing in a little while.  But first a bit more discussion of painting plans for the future. Last time, I looked back at the various and sundry units, support troops, and civilians that I've managed to paint in the last 17 years as the Grand Duchy of Stollen project has developed.  So today, let's look into the seemingly bottomless Drawer 'o' Lead to my left for a clue to the new direction.  Be forewarned, it's not going to be a quick job getting everything painted and based, but there we are. The following plans are based on the pile of unpainted figures already here.  Any future purchases will be limited to small things that might be needed to fill out the envisioned units (the odd few officers mounted o

Having a "No Day". . .

F or the almost 20 years that she lived in Mexico, one of my late mother's Irish friends frequently mentioned having a "No Day."  A day with no social obligations, chores, tasks, or other work that interfered with whatever personal interests took one's fancy on the day in question. Since today -- a gray and chilly Saturday -- is Mom's birthday, the Grand Duchess is out with friends, and the Young Master is ensconced on the sofa in the TV room with a cold, yours truly is taking his own such No Day.  I think Mom would approve of my decision to make the world go away, as the old Eddie Arnold song intoned, even if only for a little while. So, I will spend Saturday afternoon focused on that first squadron and small regimental staff of Eureka Saxon cuirassiers.  These have stood waiting  untouched over on the painting table for almost three weeks while we skied and otherwise gadded about with snowy, winter outdoor activities. I hope to share a painting update Sunday a
