It's not easy, bein' green. . .

33 Green bases of RSM95 French musketeers painted? Check! Next up? Their faces and hands. Then the painting starts to get a bit more interesting.

On another note, do any of you Stollen regulars know which very famous Jim Henson/Sesame Street muppet recorded this song in the early 1970s? My mother bought the 45rpm single for my sister and me, and we played it to death – much to Mom’s chagrin, I think. But she was very kind and patient. . . still is as a matter of fact, even viewing this blog from time to time! A fitting thought for this particular Sunday.

Today, Mom lives and paints in Mexico where the constantly tropcial temperatures agree with her temperament more than in southeastern Pennsylvania where I grew up. She's quite talented too, recently being asked by the City of Merida and the government of Yucatan state to produce a few pieces for exhibit in various museums around the city. You'll forgive my bragging, but she's my mom, and I'm so pleased for (and proud of) her. Happy Mothers' Day!

It sounds like you should be very proud of her.

Think of how fortunate you are, Stokes, to have such a mother and the Grand Duchess as well.

That was Kermit the Frog. :-)
Yes! Gentlemen, we have a winner! Kermit the Frog it is. Well done, Sir!

Seconded Jeff's comments, very fine lady you have for a mother it sounds. Sensible too, leaving the cold weather. ;)

And the answer is Kermit the Frog.
We have another winner! Yes, the great Kermit. . . the love of Miss Piggy's life and one-time host of The Muppet Show. Well done, Jonathan!

Best Regards,

Stokes

It is one of our family traditions that we watch the Muppets Christmas carol movie with Michael Caine as Scrooge. Absolute hoot especially after a glass or two. I think the grown ups enjoy it more than the children.

Mind you, the two stars of the Muppet Show for my mom and I were always Statler and Waldorf. Points if you know who they are. :D
Jonathan,

Staler and Waldorf? Why, the two old guys who made risque jokes in the balcony of course! Thanks for mentioning them. I could not for the life of me remember Statler's name.

Best Regards,

Stokes

I recall that our whole family (parents included) watched the Muppet Show on saturday night. My Dad wouldn't go out to any parties or movies unless it started after the Muppet Show was over. I think that Stadler and Waldorf were his favorite characters.

Do you remember the Muppet characters on Saturday Night Live? The prehistoric dinosaurs Snert, Scree and the Great Favok, etc?

Oh, yeah, I remember the SNL muppets. And even earlier, the occasional muppet appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
I never missed the Muppet Show either. That was must see tv for me, too. :-)
Pings in Space! The Great Gonzo, the Swedish chef, Sam the Eagle, Beeker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Rizzo the Rat, and so many more. Great stuff, the kind of thing that could entertain the kids on 1 level and the adults on additional levels (like the old Rocky and Bullwinkle shows, for example).

Presenting the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere!!!

Here they are, with the rearmost nine figures still drying, three squadrons of the Anspach-Bayreuth Kuirassiere, now in the service of the Grand Duchy of Stollen. And now, it's onto that artillery!

Taking Stock Part II: The (As Yet) Unpainted but Planned OOB. . .

Two companies of Reichsarmee grenadiers painted back in 2017 or 2018.  Minden Austrians of course. A lovely early autumn day here in the grand duchy.  Bright sunshine and a light breeze with cool temperatures will make for some very pleasant late afternoon lawn mowing in a little while.  But first a bit more discussion of painting plans for the future. Last time, I looked back at the various and sundry units, support troops, and civilians that I've managed to paint in the last 17 years as the Grand Duchy of Stollen project has developed.  So today, let's look into the seemingly bottomless Drawer 'o' Lead to my left for a clue to the new direction.  Be forewarned, it's not going to be a quick job getting everything painted and based, but there we are. The following plans are based on the pile of unpainted figures already here.  Any future purchases will be limited to small things that might be needed to fill out the envisioned units (the odd few officers mounted o

Having a "No Day". . .

F or the almost 20 years that she lived in Mexico, one of my late mother's Irish friends frequently mentioned having a "No Day."  A day with no social obligations, chores, tasks, or other work that interfered with whatever personal interests took one's fancy on the day in question. Since today -- a gray and chilly Saturday -- is Mom's birthday, the Grand Duchess is out with friends, and the Young Master is ensconced on the sofa in the TV room with a cold, yours truly is taking his own such No Day.  I think Mom would approve of my decision to make the world go away, as the old Eddie Arnold song intoned, even if only for a little while. So, I will spend Saturday afternoon focused on that first squadron and small regimental staff of Eureka Saxon cuirassiers.  These have stood waiting  untouched over on the painting table for almost three weeks while we skied and otherwise gadded about with snowy, winter outdoor activities. I hope to share a painting update Sunday a
