Happy First Day of Advent!!!

You didn't think I'd forget, did you? I mean with all the toy soldiers and wargaming going on around here the last few days, December 1st might have slipped by unnoticed. But, no! Each day this month, I'll have some sort of seasonally appropriate graphic (or two or three) right here for your enjoyment. And I've got some good ones in store.

This one is special to me because my maternal grandmother read from this book to my sister and me when we were about seven and eight years old. Over the years, Tolkien wrote numerous letters from Father Christmas for his own children, relating the exploits of the Northern Polar Bear and other characters as they prepared each December for the annual journey around the world by reindeer powered sleigh.

Anyway, Tolkien's delightful book Letters From Father Christmas is one of those many pleasant Christmas memories that cross my mind as the season starts each year. And we even have snow on the ground as I peek outside this morning. Glorious! I think my grandmother would be pleased.

A Tolkein book I'd never heard of! Well, we're off to a good start on your graphics, other than that I probbly have to spend more money now. ;)

I just looked at Amazon Canada . . . this book (which I was also unaware of) won't be delivered before Christmas . . . *sigh*

I was hoping that you would show us a new picture of toy soldiers for each day of Advent. :)

I remember that book.
But the line "my maternal grandmother read from this book to my sister and me when we were about seven and eight years old." makes me feel old! lol
